Lunch at a Vineyard in Terricciola, Fattoria Fibbiano

Updated: Jul 14

Fattoria Fibbiano is one of the areas more well known vineyards, and it should be. The Vineyard boasts over 20 hectares of vineyards, five hectares of olive grove and 12 hectares of woodland.  Their array of grape varieties include the areas well known Sangiovese, Sangiovese Forte, Sangiovese Polveroso, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, and Colorino for their reds. For their delicious whites they grow Vermentino and Colombana. About 2.5 of their vineyard hectares is over 100 years old and 17.5 of the hectares are up to 20 years old.

Now of course, it goes without saying a tour and tasting of their vineyard and wines are a must when in this area. Their Ciliegiolo is something very special and rare to Terricciola, but what I love to do most here is their unforgettable lunch experience.

They don’t advertise it on the site, but it very much is offered. You will start with a tour of their facilities to include the vines, production and bottling rooms and cellars. At the end of the approximately 45 minute tour, they always have a tasting in one of the selected rooms, but their special lunch guests will be escorted to their courtyard overlooking the vines alongs with views of the hills. Here is where the magic happens. This four course event pairs their delectable wines with accompanying food. Local meats, cheeses and dessert are all part of this, but what makes the lunch truly delizioso is their chef’s lasagna. Made just like your Italian nona would make it (from scratch and with the kind of recipe only she knows).

The wine flows, the food keeps coming and the views are endless. It really will be an afternoon to remember. And if you're looking for a place to stay, they also have apartment style rooms in their beautiful 17th century farmhouse.
